Bangladesh is located in southern Asia surrounded to the north, east, and west by India and the mysterious country of Myanmar to the southeast. To the south lies the Bay of Bengal, where the mighty Ganges River meets the Indian Ocean in an area called the Fingers of the Ganges. Bangladesh is the 9th most populous country, 12th most densely populated, and home to the world's 9th largest city Dhaka (14.9 million). Originally part of Pakistan until the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 it suffered through 20 years of poverty, famine, political turmoil, and military coups. In 1991 democracy was restored along with economic prosperity. Experiencing monsoon season from June to October Jordan and Clark will have quite a change from San Diego's semi-arid climate.
